Cecilia daughter of Brigadier General James STEEL CB of Cockermouth Cumberland wife of Admiral MAXSE of Dunby Hill Dorking 1842 - 1917 whose daughter Viscountess MILNER of Great Wigsell in this parish built this monument and here, in her mothers grave be the ashes of Olive Hermione MAXSE elder daughter of Admiral MAXSE and Cecilia his wife born November 24th 1864. Died March 16th 1955.

In memory of Lt Col James Walker ANDREWS J.P late Devon regt. born 18th December 1845 died 221st March 1926 son of Thomas ANDREWS F.R.S of Queens College Belfast.  Also of Emily wife of the above, of Bantony in this parish born 19th June 1847 died 19th February 1944 elder daughter of Frederick William ALLFREY of Bantony and Stanbury Grazely Berks.  Also of Mary Violet born 10th July 1879 died 12th March 1942, second daughter of above. Also of Thomas Frederick eldest son of above born 16th October 1887 died 28th February 1960.  Served in France as a gunner in the 47th Battery Australian Imperial force 1914-1918

Of Mortehoe Devon buried at sea.  Blessed are the merciful, and their son John Lawson 1907 –1974 be ye steadfast, and his beloved wife Mary Margaret 1917 – 2000 younger daughter of Major Edward BODY M.C.  Underneath are the everlasting arms
